A great first day despite the rain

WELCOME DAY

It was so lovely to meet our visitors at last! I went up from London with Lucile on the train, carrying lots of things for the residential, but when we got to Northampton station, we couldn't get anyone to answer the phone and tell us where they were! It turned out they were too busy talking to each other... So we had to work it out, starting at the Quaker Meeting House where they'd just been and heading for town, asking people, looking in cafes ... Suddenly we found them! Three or four tables full of friendly-looking people...at last!

It was too rainy for the walk round outside that Julia and friends had planned, so she gave Fadwa six suggestions of places to go... She and the others chose the town museum! After fish, chips and mushy peas, we went slowly through the town centre - lots of photos - and everyone enjoyed the museum. Photos in front of the shoes that the town is famous for; photos in front of paintings; photos in the local history section.

Back at the Meeting House, Fadwa's feedback session found that our guests were happy!  And so were we, despite the weather. The friendly people of Northampton-Al Bireh Friendship Association were waiting with tea and cake to take people to their homes.

I had several jobs this evening, one of which was co-ordinate the arrival of several late-arriving UK participants. Well, the less said about that the better... All is well now :)

Looking forward to tomorrow and going to Grendon.
